    As/ However /No matter + adjective

    1)  AS ( conjunction )   ADJECTIVE + AS + SUBJECT + VERB  ADJ. + AS + SUBJECT + VERB    = although

ex :  Angry as he was, he couldn't help smiling. = Angry though he was, he couldn't help smiling ...

    - First, let's insist on the fact that  'as+ adjective + as + subject + verb' is a mistake in British English.  Except for comparisons, the first 'as' must be  suppressed.

Indeed, British people say : He is as tall as you are. but : Tall as you are, you are still shorter than he is.

This form is undoubtedly extremely frequent in English-speaking countries. Many other forms are equivalent and are used in a great variety of situations and contexts :

ex : Surprising though it may seem, he came alone and stayed alone ...

ex :  Although she was nice, she sometimes lost her temper ...

ex : She continued her work till the end, even though she was very tired.

    2)  HOWEVER (= adverb)  : HOWEVER + ADJECTIVE + SUBJECT + VERB = HOWEVER +ADJ. + SUBJECT + VERB   = degree, amount.

ex : However hungry I am, I 'm never able to finish a whole pizza.

ex : However polite he's said to be, he cursed at me for five minutes !

    3)  NO MATTER ... :  NO MATTER HOW + ADJ. + SUBJECT + VERB = NO MATTER HOW + ADJECTIVE + SUBJECT + VERB   = something is true, whatever the situation....

    a) +  adjective : = No matter how + adjective + subject + verb.

ex : No matter how nice she was, she sometimes lost her temper.

ex : He can't lose weight', no matter how hard he tries.

          NO MATTER HOW + adjective + subject + verb   HOWEVER + adjective + subject + verb    =   ADJECTIVE + AS + subject +verb

    b) No matter may be followed by ‘What, when, why, who, whose, where, if, etc.  with the same meaning as 'it doesn't matter', 'it's not very important' ...

ex : No matter what road you take, you'll get there in no time !

ex : Taking a car will be quicker than walking there, no matter whose car you'll borrow ...

... and now, you're ready for the test ! Go for it !
