    Vocabulary: touch, our skin...

Thanks to our senses, we communicate and open ourselves to the outside world. We can see, hear, smell, taste, and of course, we can touch things. We're going to study the skin, the organ of TOUCH, which is so important for our health. It breathes and lives.

The surface of an adult's skin is a meter and a half to two square meters, and it weighs between three and five kilograms.

The colour of our skin varies and becomes tanned (or burnt ) in the sun. Our complexion is an indicator of the good health of our skin, and, in fact, of our whole body.

     The skin (here, tatooed)

            Structure of our skin

     To touch each other

                 Fingerprints

    1) Touching enables us to apprehend and understand our environment. Thanks to it, we can distinguish the shape of things, their nature, their temperature, their aspect etc.

Thanks to our skin and of the nerve endings it contains, we can feel sensations (often expressed by adjectives qualifying the objects around us).

                 Smooth/ Rough

                     Soft/ Hard

                       An uneven tan

                             Clammy hands

                    Greasy
                        Slippery

                   Sticky
                             Fluffy

    2) Thanks to our skin, and to our whole body, we can make a lot of movements and do many different actions, which are often expressed by verbs: here are a few...

                        To squeeze

                               To brush

                 To scratch

               To palpate             To massage

                    To applaud

To knock              to tap (tap dance)                  To kiss

             To cuddle             To cradle

               To handle with care

To rub               To stroke           To tickle

Here you are! With those few words, you should be able to enter a conversation if "touching" is concerned! Good luck for the test!
