    The infinitive clause

     

    1) The infinitive clause is used after some verbs such as "want" and "like".

    want/like +noun  or  pronoun  + to -infinitive

     

    I want her to come.

    (Not:  I want that she comes!)

     

    I would like Jane to work better!

    (Not:  I would like that Jane works better.)

     



     

    2) The infinitive clause is also used after verbs such as: ask, expect, hate, need, order, prefer, wait for

     

    I expect her to phone me.                           

     

    I need someone to help me.

     

    I am waiting for Mike to come back.   

     


    I can’t wait to see him again.
