How to pronounce the final -ED? (past simple)

How to pronounce the final -ED (preterite / past simple) in English?

    It's easy.

    1) Identify the final sound of the base verb:

    For example,
    'play' ends in /ei/
    'start' ends in /t/

    etc.

We use "/.../" to show it is a sound.

Warning, we are speaking of the final sound - not the final letter. The sounds are interesting here, not the letters.

    Example :

the verb 'fix' ends in the SOUND /s/ because we pronounce it: /fiks/

(the letter "x" is not interesting here")

    2) Follow the rules:

➡️ Rule 1)  /d/ (general rule), we pronounce the verb as if there were a "d" at the end.
    li
    ved, arrived, enjoyed, played...

    ➡️ Rule
    2) /t/ after the sounds: /p/, /k/, /f/, /s/, /api21*/, /api22*/.

    worked (son /k/), watched (api22*), stopped (/p/), washed (api23*)

    ➡️ Rule
    3) /id/ after the sounds /d/ and /t/:

    decided, started, wanted, needed
