    American scientists have found that children lose some of their skills during the summer holidays. A great number of children have (+ low) reading skills when they go back to school in September after a long holiday.It also appears that the summer break has a (+ great) effect on children from (- affluent) families. There are two solutions: one is to make the school year (+ long), the other is to create summer schools. Summer school began in Britain last year. The pupils who have been to summer school say that: ' it helps them concentrate (+ well) and get (+ good) results'. On the other hand, most teachers believe that to extend the school year would make things (+ bad) ; 'some parents are getting (+ and + enthusiastic) about the idea. But I don't approve of it. Children will be just (= tired) and their skills won't get any (+ good) in the long run ', says Brian Whitney of the University of Lincoln.
