Idioms: heart, teeth, and rest of the body...

In order to finish with the series of idioms about the human body, we are now going to study those mentioning the human heart,

(both as the vital organ of the blood circulation and as the "centre of feelings".)

Then, we'll see the allusions to the teeth and to other body parts.

    I) The HEART:

= to show feelings and emotions

                  To have a heavy heart

                      = to be quite sad

                      To lose heart

                   = to lose courage

              To stay young at heart

= to remain young in spite of age

      A heart to heart discussion

         =a sincere  discussion.

                   A broken heart

    II) a tooth => teeth

                  The tooth fairy

By the skin of your teeth

= by a very little margin

To be long in the teeth

           = to advance in age

III) D'autres parties du corps ...

To get a lot on one's mind

                 = many preoccupations

       ...shivers down my spine

              =  to chill and frighten

To have a chip on my shoulder

                 = to look for trouble

To have a thorn in one's side

= to have something painful and disturbing

                       To be nosy

= to poke your nose everywhere......

                 To kick oneself

= to be resentful to oneself

Here you are! (with a little more knowledge, I hope...) and ready to face the test! It's easy... Good luck!
