    Approaching Mars

Located 227 million kilometres from the Sun, Mars is the fourth planet of the solar system and the second smallest after Mercury.

Mars is one of the four telluric planets of the solar system.

It is colder than the Earth, in fact its average temperature is -63 ° Celsius.

It is called the 'red planet' because its rocky desert surface is covered with dust rich in reddish iron oxide.

There are also lots of very high volcanoes and deep canyons.

Mars has two small moons known as Phobos and Deimos.

The gravity is three times less than on Earth, making the weight of objects be divided by three ( remember the mass of an object, it never changes ).

The mass of Mars is equal to one tenth of the mass of the Earth and its surface is four times smaller.

There is no ocean, the entire surface of the planet is solid.

Yet there are two ice sheets, one north, one south. In the North, the cap is made of ice; in the south, the cap is made of solid carbon dioxide.
