    1. More than 300 ( N L U A S G G A E ) are spoken in this country.
    2. The most recent report comes from the ( U C S S N E ) count of the population in the year 2000.

    3. Of more than 260 million people over the age of five, 82 percent spoke only ( I G H L E S N ) at home.

    4. ( I H A S N P S ) is the most commonly spoken foreign language in the United States. The two thousand Census found that twenty-eight million people spoke Spanish or Spanish Creole at home.
    5. The second most commonly spoken ( E F N G R O I ) language is Chinese, with two million speakers.
    6. More than one million six hundred thousand people said they spoke ( H C F N R E ) at home.
    7. And more than one million three hundred thousand ( D R T R O P E E ) speaking German.
    8. Italian, Tagalog and Vietnamese also have more than a million ( S S E K A R E P ) each.
    9. More than half a million people reported speaking Arabic, Korean, Polish, Portuguese or Russian. Nearly five hundred thousand spoke Japanese at home. And more than four hundred thousand spoke African ( L A G U N G S E A ) .Persian and Hindi each had more than three hundred thousand speakers.
    10. There were two hundred sixty thousand speakers of Urdu.
    Also in the last Census, close to four hundred thousand people reported speaking ( I E A V T N ) American languages at home. The largest number speak Navajo. Reports say more than one hundred fifty languages are still spoken by American Indians. Others include Ojibwa, Dakota, Choctaw, Apache, Cherokee and Yupik.
