    Mexico city

    The city with the largest in the world is Mexico City. It was once called Tenochtitlan but was later conquered the Spanish. Not only is it the capital city but it is also Mexico's centre,with many offices, banks and shops. The 'Zocalo' is the world biggest square and is in the historic quarter of the city. The Metropolitan Cathedral is the largest in all Latin America and houses have many treasures from the period. Though certain areas of the city suffer from high levels of crime, the centre is safe for tourists. There is a wide of restaurants but eating tends to be quite formal. One of the best known is 'La Hacienda de los Morales', which can offer a superb 17th century feast and a great choice of wines. Mexico is very well , with an international airport, modern road network and trains linking it to the whole of Central America. The city is so big that taxi drivers work in . So don't expect them to be able to take you from one side of the city to the other!
