Queen Elizabeth I, queen of England. By Zelda Borgia.

    Queen Elizabeth I

Elizabeth was born on  September, 7th 1533 at Greenwich Palace. Her father was Henri VIII and her mother was Anne Boleyn (the second wife of Henri VIII).

Elizabeth was the second daughter of the king but he declared this marriage invalid so Elizabeth was declared illegitimate as well as  her sister Mary .

When her father died, Edward VI (her young brother) became king. He died in 1553 and Elizabeth's elder sister became Queen Mary I.

Elizabeth was suspected of taking part in a rebellion led by Sir Thomas Wyatt and was put in jail at the Tower of London. She spent one year in captivity.

Mary died and Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth I, she was crowned on  January, 15th 1559. Her reign was long and popular.

In 1558, the English were already at war against the  Spanish  who threatened to invade England. The English won by defeating the Spanish armada in 1588, which brought Queen Elizabeth much popularity and support.

Elizabeth I re-established the Protestant Church in England by law . She was never married although she had many suitors.

Elizabeth died on  March, 24th 1603 at Richmond Palace. During her reign, her country became the most powerful in the world.
