Advice / advise => 5 questions : A
- “Advice” is the noun, “advise” the verb.
- Do you want some advice (nom) ?
- I advise (verbe) you to leave early.
Practice / practise => 5 questions : B
- Practice is a noun, practise is a verb. ('Ice' is a slippery thing, 'ise' is not a thing !)
- Remember that practice is a thing ( a noun) and practise is a doing word (a verb):
- Practice = nom : 'It's good practice'
- practise = verbe : 'practise your violin !'
Passed / past => 5 questions : C
- If you are referring to time or distance, use 'past' :
- 'The team performed well in the past.'
- 'The police car drove past the suspect’s house.'
- If you are referring to the action of passing, you need to use 'passed':
- 'When John passed the cream, he spilled it on the table cloth.'
- 'The teacher was astonished that none (= aucun) of the students had passed the test.'
- Passed = verb - preterite
- Past = noun ( = the past)
- Past = after a verb (to go past)
