Vendee Globe race

Do you like yacht races ?

The' Vendee globe' was founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989.It is a round-the -world single-handed yacht race which takes place every four years .

This year ,the start will take place on November 9th at the Sables d'Olonne, a boating and fishing port on the Atlantic coast.

The race is open to monohull yachts. In 2008,there are thirty boats ready to participate .

They sail non-stop and without assistance; it's a serious test of individual endurance.

The course is a circumnavigation from Sables d'Olonne,down the Atlantic Ocean to the Cape of Good Hope,then clockwise around the Antarctic, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn,then back to Sables d'Olonnes ..21,780 miles against all the odds.They have to cross  three Oceans ( the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean ).

In 2004,the winner was Vincent Riou .His time was eighty-seven days,ten hours,forty- seven minutes, fifty seconds.
