    King of Great Britain

All the knights of Winchester tried to pull the sword out from the stone but no one succeeded, they all failed, even the  strongest knights failed too. So, the archbishop announced that the true king was not among the crowd that day, and informed them that he would send messengers to all the lands of Britain. Anyone who would like to become the true king of Britain, might come to the cathedral, there would be a contest at Christmas time.

It was Christmas time, Winchester was covered with white snow, and the weather was very cold. All the knights of Britain came to the gathering in order to participate in the contest; among them  was an old, brave and honest knight called Sir Ector, he came with his two sons: the older one “Kay” who was eighteen years old, and “Arthur” who was only sixteen years old, but Arthur was taller and stronger than his brother Kay. On the day of the contest Kay remembered that he had forgotten his sword in their tent, then Arthur told him that he would ride  to the tent in order to bring  his sword back.

Arthur prepared himself and rode  across the fields. When he reached the middle of the fields he saw a bright sword standing in a big stone. As soon as he came closer he pulled the sword from the stone; he thought that no one was using that sword, so it could be useful for his brother Kay. Then all the people gathered around Arthur and asked him who gave him the sword; Arthur was astonished in fact he did not know the story of this sword. Sir Ector came  to his son and ordered him to put the sword back in its place, then he asked Kay to pull the sword from the stone, but Kay failed. All the knights one by one tried to pull the sword but it still did not move. At that time Sir Ector asked Arthur to pull again the sword from the stone, so Arthur put his both hands on the sword and pulled it easily from the stone.

Everybody watched Arthur as he pulled the sword easily from the stone. Sir Ector got off his horse and informed Arthur that he was the true king of Britain, and then he knelt down and told him that he was not his true father,  he was brought to him by Merlin the magician when he was only a few days old, but his true father was King Uther Pendragon. Everybody knelt down when they heard those words, but Arthur did not understand anything as he was astonished and could not speak. After three months, and at spring time of that year, Arthur was crowned King of all Britain. When the archbishop put the crown on Arthur’s head, everybody shouted “Long live to the King
