    Past simple

    How will you say if something happened in the past?

    The first thing you should know is about the rules of how a verb is used in preterite tense.

    Preterite form of the verb

    1. generally, add '-ed' to the end of a verb

    play---->played,   work---->worked

    2. if the verb ends with an 'e'  that does not sound , add '-d' to the end of it.

     live---->lived,    hope---->hoped

    3.if the verb ends with a consonant  and '-y' , change '-y' into '-ied'

    try---->tried,    study---->studied

    4.if the verb ends with a consonant and a stressed  closed syllable, duplicate the last consonant and add '-ed'  to the end.

    stop---->stopped,  drag---->dragged

    5.irregular verbs, no good rules , but try to remember them.

    go---->went,   get---->got, for example.
