During Easter time, and while all the knights were enjoying the big feast a holy hermit named Naciens entered the big hall. King Arthur talked politely to his guest and invited him to join his men. So, the hermit greeted all the Knights of the Round Table  and then he moved slowly towards King Arthur and asked his permission to talk. A few moments later, the hermit started talking and informed everybody at the Round Table that a beautiful lady called Blanchefleur had been unfairly imprisoned  in a tower called “The Dolorous Tower” by an evil sorceress.  He also added that only the bravest and most honest knight could save her.

Immediately, when the hermit finished telling his story, Sir Lancelot du Lac stood up and then he announced in a brave voice that he and Sir Percivale would travel to the tower as soon as possible in order to rescue that lady. The hermit warmly thanked  the two knights. Then he looked closely at the Round Table. While the hermit was examining it, he noticed that there was a special empty seat. Naciens examined the empty seat again and whispering, he asked King Arthur to whom that empty seat belonged! Immediately King Arthur told the hermit that a long time ago Merlin the magician informed him that no man on earth had the right to sit in it, but  that  one day the purest and most worthy knight would come to sit in it.

The following day, the hermit, Sir Lancelot and Sir Percivale rode out of Camelot. After many long days, they finally reached a wild forest full of tall oak trees, and just near the top of a huge hill stood a big black tower; in fact it was the tower where the lady was imprisoned. The Dolorous Tower was a huge stone building; its door was made of dark brown wood and it had many windows.  Sir Lancelot and his companion hurried to open the door. Strangely, the door did not move; something seemed to be stopping it. After they examined the door, they discovered that it was fastened with an iron lock. After several unsuccessful attempts to open the door they finally succeeded; they used both their swords to strike the iron lock. As soon as they  had broken the lock, they also broke the spell that kept Blanchefleur prisoner.

As the door opened, the two knights heard a strange sound coming from somewhere far inside; in fact it was the sound of feet on wood as Blanchefleur came running down the stairs. Shortly afterwards, the lady introduced herself to Sir Lancelot and Sir Percivale, then in a sad voice she informed them that Morgana the Fay had used her magic powers to keep her imprisoned for a long time. She also added that Morgana was her father’s worst enemy.  Then, the beautiful lady asked the two knights to go with her to visit her father who was living in a castle called “Castle Carbonek”
