“I ' ve had an awful time getting here . I couldn ' t find the freeway as there was a detour which took me over an overpass so I missed my turning . Then this woman with a stroller just walked off the sidewalk in front of me . I swerved to avoid her, hit a stone and damaged the muffler . Then I had to get some gas and they tried to tell me the way . But I didn ' t understand their English and so had to stop at a pull-off to look at the map . A police car stopped in front of me and the officer approached me, swinging his nightstick . I was really scared, I can tell you . But he was very understanding when he heard my accent and asked me to follow his car . But even when I got here, I couldn ' t find the elevator so I ' m sorry that I ' m really late - but now I must go to the restroom .

“Well, you have my sympathy but you should have asked the receptionist at the hotel to knock you up earlier”.
