    Padanga, a city of the west of Indonesiais, the capital of the province of Sumatra-West, on the Western coast of the island of Sumatra, near the montans of Padang. Padang is the principal port of the area, producing coal, rubber, cane, copra, coffee, spices, tobacco and tea. Padang was in the beginning a commercial counter, with Duchting merchants about 1680. In 1781, Padang passed der the control of the English until 1819, when the Dutchmen took again possession of it. The city was occupied by the Japanese dring the Second World war.
