Tell us about your holidays.
Message de jeanmi posté le 03-08-2005 à 17:21:09 (S | E | F | I)

Hi,

What about telling us about your holidays?

As for me I spent a week in Turkey. I took the plane in Paris and flew for three and a half hours to Izmir. There a woman was waiting for us to drive us by bus to Kusadasi (pronounced kouchadaseu). She is a French woman who married a Turkish man five years ago. She is from Lievin, in the North of France. She confessed that her husband followed her to France but he didn't get used to the weather. It was a bit too wet and too cold for him. So, they went back to Turkey. He then became the manager of a hotel (not the one we went to) and she started working for a holidays group at the hotel where we went.
We arrived in the afternoon at the hotel which is based very close to the sea. How wonderful it is to have meals almost on the beach, listening to the waves and looking at the sun downing in the evening. We could have a glass, then go to the beach and as soon as we were thirsty come back to the bar and have another glass before swimming a little. It was very comfortable. I loved it.
Concerning the site, it was very beautiful. The beach was in front of us and on the right side, we had a view on the mountains. We even took a boat to some little beaches on the edge of these mountains. The water was like a warm bath.
And you'd say, what about Turkish people? They are really nice. They don't speak a lot of French, but if you can speak English, I assure you you can spend good time with them. I had the feeling that they didn't know what to do to please us. I have never met so nice people. I advise you to go there, really, you'll come back with so many souvenirs in your minds.

Now it's your turn.

Hello Jeanmi,

I'm happy to know you enjoyed your holiday.

My last holiday were on October 2004 when I went to Canada. I had to wake-up early because I had to take a train then a fly from Paris to Toronto. I arrived to at Toronto sixteen hours after the departure but I wasn't tired because I was very excited to be there. There was a guide who was waiting for us and we took the bus to go at to our hotel far from 400 kms.
This trajet was long but we were on holiday !

We visited several famous sites and towns. Every day, we woke-up early and went sightseeing. I saw wonderful sceneries which never, I'll forget. For example, we went to meet the whales on the St-Laurence Lake and it was really unforgettable ! I loved very much too taking the boat and going under the "Niagara Falls".
Canadian people were nice, with good-manners.

There is a thing I really dislike there, it was their coffee ! I remember that when I was in Montreal, I tried to find a bar serving expresso.
Now, I'm pining to do my next trip.

Jeanmi

A journey = un voyage au sens de trajet, a stay ici est plus approprié.

Last Sunday I came back from Malta where I spent 2 weeks for holidays. The weather was very sunny and hot (what is not the case for the moment in Luxembourg).
Beaches are rocks-beaches, only one is with sand and thus populated. The sea is clear with small coloured fish but a little too cold for me.
Inlanders are very pleasant people and all speak English, the second official language. It was helpful to review my English on this site before flying !
As people drive on the left side, we gave up to rent a car and we covered the island with old English buses (the oldest we took was 43 years). It was very funny and we had the feeling to come back in the past.
La Valetta and M'dina are on architectural point of view nice cities. But I'm a little disappointed : I imagined that with the history of "Knights of Malta" there were more interesting places to visit.
Although... laying on the beach with a good book or doing ... nothing are also part of holidays ;-))

Hello,
I am a new member. It is the first time I participate to a talk Perhaps you won't find my last holidays were very exciting but I had good time and it was the main thing. I spent two weeks at Pornic in June. I made some walks along the coastal way by the sea. The landscape was splendid and very wild. Sometimes, with my boyfriend, we took a bus and we came back on foot. Our rented accommodation was near (early on) a golf. So we made some practice but as our technique wasn't right, my arms and shoulders were stiff ! The weather was hot (a little bit too hot for me because during my holidays I like to have activities as : to practice sports : tennis, walking, swimming...) or to visit interesting things). After a full / busy day (journée bien remplie ?) my pleasure is to relax reading a good book.

Sorry, I don't master this software tool but I am going to learn it !

Hi Jeanmi
First of all, thanks for this exercise!
In general, people have holidays in summer. Maybe because it coincides with holiday's schools school holidays but also since it's very hot in almost all the countries through around the world so working became too tireding.
Someone wrote here over that holidays are usually short. I think that I have an explanation, simply because as soon as vacations begin we count the past days as well as those that remain.
However, we can't close all our administrations and societies companies in summer!
Someone must sacrifice and work during the summer. It's what happened to me.
I don't have haven't had vacation yet. Don't worry I'll write about when I'll have it.
I know that it's out topic, but I don't want to miss this opportunity that gives me luck a chance to practice my English writing.

Hello,
To telling you about my last holiday? It's make me with pleasure.
Last year , in september, I went to France for my vacation. The most wonderful is that I went there to meet my boyfriend. That's very good because I'm from Ocean Indian isle. To make 10 000 km for love it's great.
Every day he showed me different places like Eiffel tour, arc de triumph ... or every towns along the north coast. We visited museums , fairs. I had the opportunity to know French people. Their culture, tradition, their base of food and so on ..
So I spent my holidays with my love and we had a very nice time together.
In brief, I can say that France is very good and clean but life is very expensive.

During these holidays, I were well rested well, I read some books.
I received a few friends. I visited Ile d'Oléron and Noirmoutier where there were many people.
During two months, we have had a pleasant weather not rain but the thing that I am proud of I kicked the habit of smoking my smoking habit

Hello Jeanmi and everybody. I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!! And very happy to be there among all of you ! I know it's late to write all about my holidays right now but I don't manage to sleep! Actually I have shared my time between airports and planes since wednesday at 9.00am (at in Chicago so 4.00pm here) and I arrived in Nice at 3.45pm which makes almost 24hours!!! That's because I left from Chicago to New York and then from NY to Nice! Well, what about my holidays? Wow, splendid, marvellous, exceptionnal.... I've never spent such a wonderful holidays!
First I went to New York from August 31st to September 6th. Over there, we (two friends of mine and I) were in a very fancy YMCA with a lot of sports rooms: basket ball, bodybuilding, swimming pool....
In New York buildings are really high it's impressive! As soon as I arrived there I spent all my time with my head turning toward the sky!
I went to Central Park (besides, it was just next to the YMCA), this park is really huge, inside, we can find a little zoo, and the sight is great, tree, rock, foreign people have a walk (like me ) etc... and especially building's sight in the background! Besides, in NY, I found people do who were nice and especially the police. We went and saw them to take some pictures and they always were agreed and were happy to do it! Then I also saw the Statue of Liberty! I think and I'm even sure it will be my best memory! Wow very impressive! I rised up until its feet because it wasn't possible to rise up higher owing to a failing stair! But the sight over Manhatthan, and behind, the Brooklin bridge was exceptional indeed. I went to Ellis Island too. It was really magical too because of learning so much about those people who imigrated into the USA and who spent by this place! I don't know how to explain itexplicate. Then I crossed the Brooklin bridge and I also rised up in the Empire State Building (93 storeys!). The sight is marvellous and of course I take took a lot of pictures! Besides, throughout all my trip I took more than 600 pictures . A thing that I prefered in NY it's Time Square! Especially during the night! Streets are packed and floodlights are great. They are huge and most of them are animated that's too beautiful.I went to the previous twin towers, but I felt a feeling really weird feeling, that was sad indeed. I went to Brooklin also, The Bronx, Wall street, Chinatown. I saw the Madison Square Garden where plays the Knics (basketball team of nba) play. There, people are quite different from here! More than 60% are really fat or even just a bit! Or they are really muscular! In Brooklin, 90% are black, and a salesman told me that most of people living in Manhattan don't dare to come in, but I didn't understand why, he spoke too quick ! In Manhattan, streets are packed of taxis, buses, and limousines! Few are the cars driving in! But outside Manhattan that's quite different!Less taxis etc... and more cars.
Well Chicago now . I went there from 6th in the evening from to 14th. Over there I was at my friend's grandma house! That was fantastic and great to spend time with her because that was the first time I was with someone who didn't know couldn't speack French so English obliged! I confess too I had a hard time to understand all everything but she spoke slowly to my friend and I! Of course not for his her little son who is bilingual! Actually At present she lives in Western Springs, it's 30 minutes by train from Chicago. And it was too funny to see the houses there because that was like in the movies. They are all one next to other with its a little garden in front of them. I don't know if you see what I mean? In Chicago it's a little bit different compared with NY, people are more "normal", less fat... and buildings are less impressive because there are less fewer of them. But they are more beautiful and especially there is the second higher building of in the world: The Sears Tower, 580m high (with its antennas and 530m high without)!!! Of course I rised up right up, 103 floors! I saw the stadium of the Chicago Bulls with the statue of Michael Jordan and a lot of things more.
Well I really enjoyed myself and I'll never forget that trip!

Thanks Jeanmi and excuse me beforehand for my mistakes but it was long all the same!

Hello Jeanmi!

It's funny! I've also been in Turkey for one week in July 2005. More precisely in KUSADASI at Festival Akdeniz hotel...
The stay itself was good with kind people who like talking with curious tourists interested in their customs.
We were offered tea almost 4 times a day! It was quite impolite to say "sorry but we have been offered tea 3 times yet". So we accepted it like a warm sign of welcoming.
What I preferred was the minibus connecting Kusadasi centre city to hotels bordering the sea...too cute too tiny compared to French buses. But it was a way to explore directly Turkish manner of living way of life.

hello , everybody

I spent 3 weeks in Ireland , in fact I was in Cork , I have my best friend there , he moved 3 years ago , and I have never gone there before.
I took my flight in Lyon and flew straight to Dublin , and I rented a car to go to Cork .It took 3 hours and half by car , I enjoyed the trip because I could see so many place very lovely places.
As soon as I arrived we had a big party for our holidays .
In fact my friend lives in a small village very close to Cork called Bailly cotton , all people I met were very friendly , I made them laught with my strong French accent .In the beginning of my holidays ,it has been difficult to understand Irish people ,but after 1 weeks it was better/easier .
My friend made me visited all the south of Ireland , from southwest to southeast , all places I could see were so green and so big ,I took many pictures. Can you believe if I say I swam twice but it is true it was very difficult , and I met some big jelly fish whish which I have had never seen before some like this .
I stayed in a bed and breakfast during my trip, It has been a good experience ,then after 3 weeks I took another flight and flew to the south of Portugal , I stayed there 1 week , only to relax a bit because in Ireland I walked a lot ,after one month of holidays I came back at home .

My holidays seems very far away what a shame
there is no holidays without money , and no money without working.

I have 3months and weeks of holidays. So I'm still in vacation.
For the two first two months, I've done followed training course in an accoutant center. I went to the center beginning from Mondays to Fridays. It was the first time for me to do follow a training course in a center. It was a good experience for me, and it learn has taught me how to speak in public ( I'm a little shy). I learn too much, the practice is a bit different from the theory we've done at the school. Despite of the good environment, it's was exhausting.
Then the month of in September, I went to France for one month. During my stay there I lived at Reims in the north east. I spent my time to sleeping, cooking, visiting the town, and to doing shopping. All On Thursday, I go went out with my brother; and I went to Paris also not the not only on Thursdays but also during the week-ends to see some places like "Tour Effeil the Eiffel tower", "Notre Dame de paris", "Bercy", "l'arche de la Defense", "l'Arc de Triomphe", " les Champs Elysées", and some markets.
And after my stay in France I came back home in to Senegal, and I spend my time sleeping, and sleeping, and also online discussing with my friends.

sorry for my English, it's been a long time I've not practised, so don't be surprise for my language.

Hi everybody

As new member it is my pleasure to tell you that I spent a few days in the beautiful region of Charlevoix located about 160 Kl. east of Quebec city playing golf, going to the casino and having lunches.I also had the chance to cruise for one night on the St Lawrence river looking at the moon and listening to the music.I take advantage of this opportunity to improve my English. So long

Attention à l'orthographe : "I" s'écrit toujours avec une majuscule, San Francisco et Los Angeles s'écrivent en deux mots.
Merci de ne jamais écrire en langage SMS : "u" ne veut rien dire, mais "you" a du sens!

Hello,
I am a new member and a beginner to speak English. Sorry for all mistakes.
I spendt my last holidays in the States. We visited the gran canyon, mesa verde, the petrified forest. We traveled to Durango where we took the old steam train across the mountain. The surround was very beautiful
and we could admire the pure green river in the valley. When I took pictures through de the window of de the train my skin was covered with soot.
We also visited also Silverton still an atmosphere of a cowboy village.
We drove across the land of Navajo Indians and arrived on Moab the site of Arches valley. You can see the big holes in the rocks which were sculpted in the past of the erosion. It 's like looking through the windows.
The most beautiful site we visited was the Bryce Canyon. It was a bit cold early in the morning and we could see the sun rising on the top of the splendid massif looking like colored yellow pink and orange fingers.
The weather was hot just in time to do a stroll across the mountains, the landscape was very impressive. At last we had not so much time to do something else than take the highway to arrive at Las Vegas in the evening. It was for us a wonderful vacation. We were tired but very
enthusiast to return next year to another marvelous place like yosemite parc.I Hope that you could understand my message. Thank you for interesting. helios

Hello,

It's my first time in this part of the site, so let's give it a try...

Last summer, I and my little family went back home to northern France and I must say it was good to be home again.
We spent one week in a small village between Lille and Dunkirk (our hometown), in the heart of Flanders. I know that Flanders does not make anybody dream and people prefer reading things about exotic trips and so on, but the place where you were born is always the best place in the world.
So we decided to play the tourists and visit Flanders like any other tourist would have done it. No native Flemish can talk about Flanders without mentionning "Godewaersvelde", a typical Flemish village, where houses are built with red bricks and small windows.
Flanders is the land of "taverns", a kind of Flemish pub where they will never serve this universally drunk soda, where you can drink perfumed and delicate beers brewed in the region. It's a social place where people share a lot, where you can meet friendly persons.
Unfortunately the north of France is known for its bad weather (not really true),its coal mines (though there are no mines in Flanders), for its very high unemployment rate etc... Maybe one day we will be famous for our sandy beaches where speed sail contests are often organised, for our delicious regional meals, who knows??

for this essay about North of France where I live too. Indeed it's a very rich region especially in the heart of its inhabitants. There are so many things to discover from the Flanders with Lille to the coast (Berck, Le Touquet, Boulogne) through the coal mine towns (Lewaerde where you can visit a coal mine museum) and the road to the coast with its typical small villages, the site called "Les 7 vallées", etc...

Hello !
Me I spent my holidays in the west of France. The name of the town is "Les Sables d'olonne". It was a very pleasant stay. In my view, it's not very important to go far if you have fun. At "Les Sables d'olonne" you can find sea, sun and entertaiments, and it's only about 4 hours from Paris.

Thank you for this site that helps me a lot.

Last august, I went to Algeria with all my family. My nephew and my niece were very happy to discover the land of their grand-mother's land. It was very long time that I returned I hadn't been back to my country for a long time and all everything was different. People, houses, streets, all was had changed. Nothing corresponded to my souvenir. There are cars, mobiles, computer, a lot of shops... it will be never a land lost in the mountain... But the weather was the same very hot : 50°, no water, but a lot of food, now we can find all European brand. Imagine, now we can buy all we need.

Next August we will return in my village. We will add a little girl : Sofia. She will be just 1 year.

I hope, I will tell you about my next holidays
