    Dès le/ traduction
    Message de kastor posté le 21-09-2014 à 10:03:59 (S | E | F)
    Hi everyone,

I was wondering how I can say : "Dès le matin" as in "je ne fume pas dès le matin" or "je ne fais pas ça dès le matin"
I know that "dès le moment" is translated by 'from the moment' but I don't think 'from the morning'.... is correct, neither the use of 'since' given that I'm not talking about a specific morning.
Any help would be much appreciated

    Hello kastor
    I propose:
I don't smoke at the dawn
    or
I don't smoke in the morning"
    Cheers

    Hello,
That's a tricky one: 'in the morning' is not enough, it doesn't convey the idea that doing it as early as in the morning would be excessive or unexpected or extreme in some way or another - an idea which is present in 'dès le matin'.

I suggest 'as early as in the morning' (with the implication that it would be too early) or 'from the morning onwards' (stressing the fact that it is going to take place all day long). Both nuances can be conveyed by 'dès'.

Usually English is more concise than French, but here I must admit that this short word 'dès' is quite effective ! Cheers.

    Hello,

'From early in the morning' would be nice.
    Bye.
