    Which / that

    1. You can borrow the book that I have just finished reading. (pourquoi ici on met that et pas which ? Même question pour les deux phrases ci-dessous)
    8. One of the girls kept laughing, which annoyed Joanna intensely.
    10. Did you see the letter which came today?

Merci d'avance pour votre aide !!

    Bonjour ,

Vos 3 exemples sont parfaits pour expliquer !
    1 ) that : relatif 'que ' c.o.d ' (antécédent book ) I have just been reading . Lui ( that ) peut être effaçable : the book I have just been reading .
    - I think that you are right : je pense que tu as raison > I think you are right ( plutôt à l'oral ) .
3 ) Which est un pronom relatif WH ou déterminant interrogatif catégoriel ( identification) suivi d'un nom : which book have you just been reading ? / which actor is your favourite ?
a ) sub. relative avec antécédent chose ou animal : pronom sujet > You should borrow one of the books which stand ( = are ) on this shelf : tu devrais emprunter un des livres qui sont ( posés , disposés ) sur cette étagère / These are the parents who /whom / that /I told you about = voici les parents dont je t'ai parlé ( ces relatifs sont 'effaçables' ) ; these are the parents who/ that are going to help us = voici les parents qui vont nous aider ; ce pronom sujet doit être formulé .
/ pronom complément : this is the book from which I showed you an excerpt . ( = this is the book ( that or which) I showed you an excerpt from .
I can lend you this book, which is a sign of interest and friendship towards you .
