    Message de gregg posté le 30-04-2016 à 21:31:10 (S | E | F)
    Bonsoir,
j'aimerais savoir si mon texte sur la notion "Spaces and exchanges" pour l'oral est correct et s'il peut correspondre aux attentes d'un juge jury
    Merci pour vos réponses.

    Introduction :
The term "Global-City" appeared for the first time in a book named : The global city : New-York, London, Tokyo wrote in 1991 by Saskia Sasseen, an american sociologist. A global city, also called world city or sometimes alpha city orworld center, is a city generally considered to be an important node in the global economic system.
A Global city is a city which is very important, a city with strong economic, political and sociological power around the world. London for exemple, during the industrial revolution was a city with a lot of power thanks to its industries. Today, there is a lot of Global Cities, like New-York, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong-Kong, Paris, London, Los Angeles, Shangaï... Around the world, there is more or less a hundred Global-Cities.
In those big cities, there is many many people (we talking about millions). There is a lot of cultures in a global city, so we talking about "multiculturalism". Global cities are not only theater of a lot of diversity but also of inequality. How can Global Cities be considered a theater of diversity and inequality ?
First of all, we will see a Global City is a gathering of diversity, passing by activities economics, cultural, political, what he push us to see a Global City is a place perfectly suitable to multiculturalism. But a city big as a Global City is also a theater of inequalities economic and social.

    I-Diversity
    a)Activities
A Global City is a city with a lot of activities which are diversified. For exemple, we can take the city of New York or "The Big apple" ; in this town, activities are many ! There is a district especially for theaters (Broadway) ! There is also a business district which is Wall Street.
In fact, Global City are Global City on account of its diversity in the industries, in the economie, in the politic and many things. Actually, a Global City is good in all domains, it's a city with a lot of a skill with a strong influence in the world.

    b)Multicultarilsm
Obviously, there is a lot of inhabitants in a Global City. The important number of inhabitants bring a lot of cultures, for exemple, at London, in 2001, census announced that Londoners were 60% British, 12 % of Indians ( Pakistanis and Bangladeshis ), 11% of Africans and West Indians , 8% of Europeans, Chinese 2% and 7 % other . In 2006, 2.2 million Londoners were born abroad . The Punjabi ( Punjabi ) is the second language spoken in London. All thoses cultures lead to exchanges, like the perlgrim's and the first nations, even if that exhange went wrong. The ethnic interbreeding in a Global City is taking an important place in the exchanges.
But sometimes, we notice some inequalities in this multicultalism. Even if Global Cities are places of diversity, that diversity lead to inequalities. “Global cities are machines for producing wealth, but they also produce and expand inequalities”, opined Saskia Sassen.

    II -Inequalities
    a)Economic
In France, 64% of the poor live in large cities . The most poor people living in the biggest town, also where the most rich are living, where inequalities are getting bigger and bigger. A Global city is like this, it's a city which gathering poor and rich people, who are really close, for exemple in Bombay, where BKC (
Bandra-Kurla Complex) the business district is less than 1mile (or kilometer) of Dharavi, the biggest slum in India which is gathering more than 750 000 inhabitants. A rich person can have a perfect life in a Global City, while a poor person will have some difficulties to live properly.

    b)Social
Like we said earlier lifestyle are differents according to your means ; a rich person will have many activities in a Global City ; theater, cinema, restaurant, getting out. Whereas a person with limited means does not allow such activities. The diversity in world cities have impacts on social live because sometimes, some cultures are not really integrated in a town. But not only cultures, the economic means are the principal cause of socials inequalities, poorest people live in the outskirts while richest people live in the dense centre, where life is more exepensive.

For conclusion, we can say size of Global Cities count a lot in the creation of diversity and inequalities. A big city is not big if there is not poor and rich people, because in all global cities there is a part of poor people and an other parts of rich people, and obsiously a middle class, appearead not long ago. " Land ownership is mother of inequality and brutality. ", opined Jean Jaurès.

    Bonne soirée
