    Infinitive/Why not
    Message from pavca posted on 12-03-2015 at 16:34:06 (D | E | F)
    Hello,
could you help me get/ understand this problem?

why NO TO should be used at the infinitive in this sentence?
“Why not have a drink at home?” in test Number 8723 by anonyme

It was mentioned here that no TO is used after "WHY NOT"
Is there any rule or should it be regarded as an idiom?
Thank you in advance for any reply.

    Hello,
Indeed, 'to' is not used after 'why not' - just the base form of the verb. It is just a rule you need to learn.
    Why not speak English?
If you're tired, why not go to sleep?
    Etc

    See you!

    Hello,
in fact, it is a suggestion:
Why don't we have a drink at home?
Why not have a drink at home?
What about having a drink at home ?
How about having a drink at home ?
    Let's have a drink at home !
Would you like (us) to have a drink at home ?
