    No matter what/help
    Message from baodali posted on 21-12-2015 at 07:30:15 (D | E | F)
    Good morning everybody!

    1) I have read that sentence: "For fabric mill, no matter what size the swatch is, the minimal quality for fabric of 1 lot is around 500 yards." In my opinion, "no matter which" is correct, or "No matter what the size of the swatch is, the minimal quality for fabric of 1 lot is around 500 yards."

    2) In addition, "The escaped prisoner had been captured." I wanted to use "escaping" instead of "escaped",as "the prisoner is escaping"
    Am I right?
    Thank you for any reply!

    Hello,
    1) What size are you?/What is your size?/What size do you take? (Cambridge dictionary on line) are common phrases used when you buy shoes or clothing items.
So your first sentence is usual and correct.

    2) I will come, no matter what you say / whatever you may say. is usual too.
So, "no matter what" will sneak in without disturbing peoples' ears.

"Which" is more precise than "what", it implies a choice.
Which of these cars do you prefer ? The blue one or the green one ?
"For fabric mill, no matter which size the swatch is, the minimal quality for fabric of 1 lot is around 500 yards." would be maybe too precise, it implies that the quality of the fabric will fit any size (1,2,3...) whereas "no matter what" simply means that the size of the watch is irrelevant to the quality of the fabric.
