    vocabulary:

    a ) to rain heavily = to pelt, to rain cats and dogs (archaic), to rain in buckets , to piss down ( vulgar), to  chuck it down (popular), to pour

    B ) to rain gently = to drizzle, to sprinkle (unevenly as  from a watercan), to spit (used only in v-ing form).

    C) to rain rapidly , with light, repeated sounds  = to batter .
