Sequence of tenses : The Student and the Rose (1/3)

HOW TO USE TENSES CORRECTLY IN TEXTS.

It is well-known that tenses and especially the sequence of tenses frighten the students ... and it is the main problem that you'll meet in exercises of Written Expression and also in oral expression.  That's why it's necessary to work on tenses very much, to do the exercises again and again. (It's normal to have to do the exercises several times, especially if you have to work on a narration, a whole text, so as to respect its logic ... You won't only have to use 'the right tenses', but also to pay attention to the  context, to the sequence of tenses and also to the form of the speech which is used (direct or reported), so as to make the necessary adjustments !

The story is logical, the text and the tenses must be coherent. Take advantage of all the clues which are given to you, the milestones which are indicated, the words playing the role of time-markers which are given or just alluded to. All these elements will help you find THE RIGHT verbal form!
