    Forms of Advertisement

Radio - Though radio is an old technology, most people like to listen to the radio while driving. Because of this, advertisements reach people.

Newspaper - It is the traditional form of advertisement. Many people receive a newspaper at home. Some spaces are reserved for advertisements in it.

Magazine - Generally, magazines are issued weekly or monthly. The quality of paper used in magazines is superior and colourful so naturally the advertisement looks very attractive.

Yellow Pages - The business part of the telephone directory is called the Yellow Pages. The colour of the pages are yellow. In 1883, when a printer in Cheyenne (US city) was running short of white paper, yellow paper came into use. The Yellow Pages are arranged topically.

TelevisionThere is a small break in each television programme for advertisements called  “commercial breaks”. There is so much creativity in television advertisements. There are tele-shopping channels too for the advertisements.

Billboard (Hoarding in UK) - The advertisement is put on a big board. You can see billboard advertisements on highways, expressways and main roads. The main purpose of billboard advertisement is to attract drivers, bikers, cyclists or pedestrians. The message always has a big picture and big letters because these people have less time to see and read. With the advancement of technology, it has become digital, with flashing lights and animation.

Internet - Also called the “online advertisement”. We are living in the digital age. The internet is used worldwide so the advertisement reaches every corner of the world. You can buy anything online, paying instantly with a credit or debit card.

Flyer A flyer is also called a leaflet, pamphlet or handbill. It is distributed in the form of paper with the details of the company, product and services. You can just throw it in the dustbin after reading it or you can keep it in your pocket if it is important to you.

Mobile - It is similar to the internet because mobile phones have internet access too. Advertisements reach you through text messages too.

Telemarketing - It reaches you through an employee over the phone from the call centre or company office. Sometimes pre-recorded message are used.

Poster - It is very common to see a poster advertisement in public places. It can be in various sizes and shapes. Nowadays, silk paper is used with some graphics and designs printed digitally on it.

Banner - You can see banner advertisements at indoor or outdoor events. Banners are made of vinyl (a type of plastic cloth) or a fabric like polyester, or silk.  They are very durable, water resistant and easy to hang.

Aerial - Aircraft, balloons or airships are used to create aerial advertisements. You can see this kind of advertisement mostly on the beaches and at outdoor air events.

I would like to share this funny advertisement from the Chicago Tribune newspaper from a furniture store. It was during presidential election in the US, when Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich was accused of selling the senate seat of Barack Obama.
