      'HYPONYM' is a word that donates a type or kind of something.


      For example:

      Dog, cat, monkey and snake are hyponyms of animal (i.e they are words for different kinds of animals)

      Boxer, bulldog, poodle, spaniel and greyhound are hyponyms of dog ( they are the names of different types of dogs).



      In this table, blue and black are hyponyms of colour and indigo, navy blue and sky blue are hyponyms of blue.

      Following table would further clarify this concept :

    Saw, hammer, soldering


    iron, drill




    Furniture &




    Tables, alarm clock, bucket,

    candle, dustbin, pictures,
