Despite the early hour, it ' s hot and wet. Men and woman are working in the rise fields. A water buffalo grazes peacefuly on the edge of the road. After doing about thirty kilometres and crossing the Red River, we arive in Hanoi. The city looks like an anthill! Few cars, but trafic jams of bicycles, overloaded motorbikes in all directions. Near a lake, old people do Taishi in the shade of tamarinds. We enter the old quarter of 36 Streets. On the pavment, a barber shaves a custommer, some others play cards or eat their ' Pho ' . The smell of saffron, coriander, perfumes the crowded streets. Each street has the name of its speciality : silk street, bamboo street or traditional medecine street . We ' re truly in Asia. In the afternoon, we go to Ba Din District where the government sits in session. We visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum after a long wait. Then we walk in the park where the modest, wooded house of Ho Chi Minh is. We end the day with a pupet show at the municipal theatre. That first day is a complete different way of life.
