    Simple past or past perfect simple


    Simple past:

     

    Form: regular verb +ed

             irregular verb (see the list)

     

    Example:

             positive form:I played tennis yesterday.

             negative form:he did not/didn't meet the boss.

             interrogative form:did they abide by the law?

     

    Use:-when an action was completed in the past in a definite time (yesterday,ago...)

     

     

     

    Past perfect:

     

    Form:subject+had+past participle.

     

    Use:-For first action when there are two actions in the past:to show which action was first.

     

           Ex:  I wrote an essay.Then, I went to sleep =

     

                 After I had written an essay I went to sleep.
