    Exclamative clauses!

    They are used to express feelings (surprise, admiration, regret, interest...)


    1. With a noun or a nominal group:


    • 'What' with a noun or  a nominal group.

    Singular

    Plural


     - with a countable noun:
    What
    + determiner + adjective + countable noun
    Eg. : What a beautiful dress!


    What + a (or: an) + (adjective) + noun + (subject + auxiliary / verb).
    Eg. : What a pretty girl (she is)!

    • - with a countable noun:
      What + ø + adjective + countable noun (plural)
      Eg.: What beautiful flowers!
    • -
      What + (ad
      jective) + noun + (subject + auxiliary / verby).
      Eg.: What beautiful flowers (you have)!


     
    - with a uncountable noun:
    What + ø + adjective + uncountable noun
    Eg. : What delicious tea!


    What + (adjective) + noun +(subject + auxiliary / verb).
    Eg. : What nice furniture (you have)!


    • 'Such' with a nominal group.

    Singular

    Plural

    She is such a nice person!

    I always enjoy seeing such good films.








    2. With an adjective or an adverb:


    how and so.


    'so' when there isn't any noun after the adjective or the adverb.


    How
    + adjective or adverb + (subject + auxiliary / verb).

    So
    Subject + auxiliary / verb + so + adjective or adverb

    Eg. : How nice (of you)!

    Eg. : This baby is so sweet!



    3. With a verb or a verbal group:


    how and so much.


    How
     + verbal group

    so much

    after the verb

    Eg. : How they talked!
    How fast you drive!

    Eg. : They talked so much!  




    Caution!


    "How" et "What" aren't question words. You should NOT invert the words in the sentence.


    Idiomatic clauses:
       
    Eg. : What a pity!
