    Is it polite?
Message from huila posted on 17-11-2009 at 09:14:00

When reply to an invitation, the addressee express in this way:

"I think we will have a good time at the party. Thanks again. We could share many interesting and meaningful stories. I hope the party would be held in time, thank you.”

I am confused whether it is polite.

Personnaly, I find that replying to an invitation is already a polite act. To me, this message of thanks is polite.

    Hello,

"I hope the party would be held in time..."

    It's not impolite, but :

Your sentence seems to question the word of your interlocutor about the hour and the duration fixed by him for this party, and it could not please him.

    Sorry, but I don't speak well the English. Thank you ;
aussi je continue en français :
vous pouvez dire, par exemple : "Pouvez-vous avoir l'obligeance de me confirmer la durée de cette "party", car je ne pourrais malheureusement pas rester au-delà de l'horaire fixé."

    Cordialement.

In my opinion,“I hope the party would be held in time” is not quite impolite,
cause I think it can indicate that he doesn't trust the host's ability of helding the party in time. Is it resonable?

    Hello !

    You write.

"I think we will have a good time at the party. Thanks again. We could share many interesting and meaningful stories. I hope the party would be held in time, thank you.”

It looks quite polite to me. Some of the verb tenses seem bizarre , though.
    I would have said:

"I think we will have a good time at the party. Thanks again. We will share many interesting and meaningful stories. I hope the party will be held in time, thank you.”

I could notice that a lot of people seldom shake hands in UK although they are very polite and sometimes quite smart.

Can we consider this behaviour as " unpolite" ?

Do they fear catching the " swine flu" ?

I think the answer is polite but when you say "I hope the party would be held in time", your friend can understand other things that is ti say "the party will be not good"

I think " I appreciate the party very much" will be a good expression. Whenever which way we chooes, the keypoint is to show our kind meaning. That's enough,I think. If we could express our wishes briefly, why don't we do this?

Re: Is it polite? by tina-china, posted on 02-12-2009 at 15:26:59
As long as we show our kind wishes, it's enough, i think so.
