Until this trip in Laos, I (never/want) to ride an elephant atop his back, sat in a heavy bamboo seat. In my opinion, it is simply something that you (modal/do) in your lifetime! The trek (last) one hour and a half. After a fifteen-minute trek through the lush tropical forest, my elephant (start/swish) his tail to get rid of a few flies. He also (flap) his ears to cool his body. That behaviour showed that he (be) in good health and not under stress. Moreover, his mahout didn't have any bull hook or a bamboo whip which (modal/hurt) this animal. He only (handle) his elephant by uttering soft words in a sing-song voice. The mahout (give) his elephant plenty of time when this animal needed to have a rest. The magnificent animal (modal/eat) as he pleased; He (grasp) heavy branches before smashing them into pieces. He (choose) bamboo shoots, fresh leaves, stems, and barks meticulously before swallowing them. On our way back to the camp, I (enjoy/feed) my elephant a few bananas. If I had known that the bananas were a treat for him, I (buy) other fruit. Then, my elephant, free from his burden, (wander) down to the bank of the river Mekong. He (dive) with a splash into the river with his other companions.
