    Express Optimism in idioms


     When life gives you lemons, make lemonade

    Meaning: Make the best out of a bad situation.

    Ex: I couldn’t go to school because I was not well but I made the lemonade out of lemons. I learned the new English lesson on my own.

     

     Every cloud has a silver lining

    Meaning: In every bad situation there is something good.

    Ex: Bill Gates was not getting good grades in his school but every cloud has a silver lining. He brought the revolution in computer field and he is a best known entrepreneur in the world.

     

     Hope against hope

    Meaning: To hope very strongly when the situation is hopeless.

    Ex: Though his knee is badly injured, he is hoping against hope that he will win the race.

     

     There is light at the end of the tunnel

    Meaning: Something that gives you hopes for the future after a long difficult time.

    Ex: After the leaders of countries met for talks on terrorism, people are seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

     

     Keep your chin up

    Meaning: Remain cheerful in a difficult situation.

    Ex: I know you have difficulty finding a job but you will have to keep your chin up and continue trying.

     

     Hang in there

    Meaning: Be patient in a difficult situation.

    Ex: A sale of our product is not going high but still we hang in there for better future.

     

     There are plenty of fish in the sea

    Meaning: There are other choices.

    Ex: For learning English, there are plenty of fish in the sea like books, private tutors, online tutors, websites etc.

     

     When one door closes, another one opens

    Meaning: When you lost one opportunity, you find another one.

    Ex: When I sold out my old house I was very sad but when one door closes, another one opens. The new house I bought is more amazing.

     

     Count your blessings

    Meaning: Be grateful for good things in life or what you have.

    Ex: Sometimes you get frustrated working whole day on the computer but count your blessings; technology has given you a lot.

     

     Everything is coming up roses

    Meaning: Everything is really excellent.

    Ex: I passed my examination and I also won the football match, everything is coming up roses. 

     

    Use the above idioms in the following exercise. Make the necessary changes where it is required.
