    Like/to like/likely...

    1)     It can be part of  a comparison :  LIKE , like + noun or pronoun ;

    ex : ‘I wanna dance like you!'

    ex : He looks like his father so much !

    BEWARE!  As learners, try to avoid using  like before a clause (subject + verb), especially if you have to take exams or if your main destination isn't the United States; use ‘as', instead.

    ex : As he said, she'll never be forgotten!

    2)   TO  LIKE = a verb

    *   most of the time, it will be followed by an - ing form:

    ex : I like singing and dancing with my friends ; I like talking and hanging around with them , too...

     *  I would like to : in the conditional,  like is followed by the infinitive;

    ex : He would like to work with his mentor forever...

    3)   TO BE LIKELY : expresses what might happen, what is probable.

    -    used with a personal subject:

    ex Pat is likely to come to the meeting... He said he'd do his best to be on time!

    -    used with an  impersonal subject:

    ex : There's likely to be a snow storm in the coming days.

    Hard luck, little boy  ... Wipe your tears...  I'll help you work twice as much, and you'll succeed...  Your Mom loves you!

    Well! Now, you must be ready for the test !  Good luck to all of you!

    1) Look at Tom! He really looks his father: same eyes, same hair, same attitudes... Pat said it looks as if Tom had been cloned from one of his Dad's cells! Yet, it's not though! and it's a good thing...

    2) Do Peter, Kim! I know you wouldn't excluded, therefore, you like everyone in your group. Now, for your birthday party, I'd like four or five friends of yours, those you like playing with... I'd like the little group to the park and organise a scavenger hunt... I'm sure they 'll like it!

    3) What sort of music ? I all musics, really, though I must admit that I wouldn't like and 'sing' rap! I like classical music, especially Mozart... I like to jazz and blues too: they relax me... I like to modern variety shows too, but you're not to meet me at a hard rock concert!
