    Vocabulary: Animal sounds/cries

This lesson will NOT consist in copying the excellent ones already on this site, giving you the 'noise' made by the different  aminals. My aim here, is to have you learn the words corresponding to these noises, so that eventually, you know them!

Some animals live in our homes, others live in farms, some others are in nature, in our parts of the world, or elsewhere... Wherever they live, they communicate ... 'speak' and understand one another ...

         Dogs bark

               Cats mew

      Horses neigh/whinny

          Bees hum/buzz

                           '

      Cows low/moo

            Sheep bleat

           Ducks quack

           Pigs grunt

      Hens cackle

          Roosters crow

             Mice squeak

            Frogs croak

The following ones are not easily tamed... Is it a reason to call them 'wild'?

                    Lions roar

            Elephants trumpet

              Snakes hiss

                Camels grunt

               Foxes yelp/yap

                Woolves howl

'But if you tame me, we'll need each other. You'll be the only boy in the world for me and I'll be the only fox in the world for you... Please, tame me!'

Le Petit Prince by Saint Exupéry.

... and now, READY for the test ! Force and courage !

    1) Mommmmm! That visit to Tunbridge Farm was fantastic... I saw all kinds of animals... We started with the cows... One of them, a brown one, kept 1) and : she was worried about her baby calf!
    2) Then we saw the sheep, so cute, so soft to stroke, they were repeatedly...
    3) Then, we went to the pigs'pen. Yuk! What a smell... A little pig was clean and pink, but most of them were muddy, dirty and fat... They were all eating or ... A funny noise really, listen, Mom...!
    4) After the pigs, we went to a sad place, I think... There were rabbit cages, so small that they could hardly move and we couldn't really see them but we heard them a lot.
    5) On our way out, we saw the pond with a lot of ducks swimming and around. There were ducklings in a line... so cute, all following their mommy.
    6) Outside, horses were grazing in a meadow. Most were calm in the shade, but a black one was and and kicking furiously...
    7) 'Daddy, could we go to the Park to see wild animals? I'd like to hear elephants , wolves , snakes , but especially lions . You know how much I like lions... I'm sure hearing them will give me the creeps...' 'Well, you should first listen to Pussy ... That will be a good training!
'No, Silky will be no help! As a dog, he !'
