    For or Since

Today, we will learn about For and Since and how to use them properly when refering to time:

    1) For:

For is used to express a certain distinguished period of time.

    For example:

-I have been here for 2 hours.

-You have been waiting for 2 weeks.

In other words, for is used to express a time period that has begun,a duration.

    Examples:

-For centuries, man has evolved beyond expectations.

-We have been on this planet for millions of years.

To differentiate it from its counterpart you can try and replace with since and see if it sounds correct. Vice-versa is possible too.

    2) Since:

Since, unlike for, is used to express the beginning of a period of time.

    For example:

-I have been here since 9 am.

-You have been waiting since this all began.

In other words, since is used to express a time period that has begun, and is still continuing now.

    Examples:

-Since I was born, my mom has been nice with me .

-I have been working, since I was 30 years old.

In this exercise choose between for and since depending on the sentence.

     Good luck!
