    Dictation - The Statue of Liberty

    The Statue of Liberty, like the Eiffel Tower, is one of the most iconic monuments in the United States. It is located in the harbour of New York.
    This statue representing Liberty Enlightening the World was give to the United States by France in 1886.
    It was the politician and historian Edouard Lefebvre de Laboulaye who had the ide of making a gift as a token of Franco-American friendship, on the occasion of the centenary of the indepandence of the United States and as a signe of friendship between the two nations. The project was entrusted to the sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi who spend more than 20 year to its realisation which he wanted to erect as a hymn to freedom.
    Bartholdi imagined a statue topped with a seven-pointed crown as a symbol of the seven continents and the seven oceans. The torch evoke the Lights and the tablet symbolises the law, on which is engrave the date of the independence of the United States.
    In Paris, the Statue of Liberty is a miniature replica of the one in New York. It was produced at the same time as the original and was ofered to France by the American Committe of Paris on the occasion of the centenary of the Revolution. It was installed and inaugurated in 1889 at the level of the Pont de Grenelle.
