    The history of the Louvre began in the Middle Ages with the construction of a fortified enclosure called the Louvre. Over the years, this enclosure underwent various alterations, reconstructions and transformations. It was named the Louvre Museum at the end of the 20th century.

    --------------- Let ' s talk about the Grand Louvre project want by François Mitterrand, President of the Republic, who decided to modernise the museum with the construction of a new entrance crowned by a glass pyramid, under the direction of the American architect Ieoh Ming Pei.
    The pyramide is the third most popular work in the Louvre after Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. After the pyramid was inaugured in 1989, the number of visitors to the museum incrased by over two millions.
    The Louvre contains priceless tresures spread over four floors and three wing, with collections spanning centuries, from ancien art to 19th century painting.
    Among the museum ' s most famous pieces are Leonardo da Vinci ' s Mona Lisa, Eugene Delacroix ' s Liberty Guiding the People, Veronese ' s Wedding at Cana, the Venus de Milo, the Victory of Samothrace, etc.
    From 1793 to the present day, the Louvre Museum has been restored, improved and expanded many times.
    The Louvre has became a major culturel pilgrinage site and is the most visited museum in the world, with more than 8 million visitors per year.
