It's the first time + present perfect

Example: You are having problems changing the tyre on your car as you have never done this before.

You say, "It's the first time I've changed a tyre".

It's incorrect to say, "It's the first time I change a tyre".

Imagine you successfully changed the tyre. A few hours later you meet a friend.You would say, "It was the first time I had changed a tyre."

It's the first time she has given medecine.
