Definitive, indefinite or no article
You use the indefinitive articles "a" or "an" to refer to a thing that is unknown and mentioned for the first time.
Example:
I eat an apple.
You use the definitive article "the" to refer to a thing already mentioned before and thus known.
Example:
The apple that I ate had a worm in it.
You also use the definitive article to refer to unique things that everyone knows.
Examples:
The sun shines brightly.
The President of the United States needs bodyguards.
The future can't be predicted.
You use no article at all to refer to a group of things in général.
Examples:
I don't like horror movies.
Poverty is the opposite of welfare.
Now it's up to you to choose between the definite, the indefinite or no article! Good luck!
