Future: will/be going to - English lesson
The Future: "will" and "be going to"
In English, we use "be going to" or "will" to talk about the future.
"Be going to"
"Be going to" is generally used to talk about a future event that is about to happen or is very likely to happen.
Example: You see your friend with a tennis racket. You can say, "He is going to play tennis."
We also use "be going to" to talk about something that we have decided or planned to do before the moment we are talking about it.
Example: Your friend sees you buying flour at the supermarket. You say to him, "I am going to make a cake." You have already made the decision even if you haven't made the cake yet.
"Will"
"Will" expresses promises, spontaneous decisions, predictions, future facts, and offers of help. In this exercise, we focus on the use of "will" in the context of an offer of help.
Note: In spoken English, we more often use "I'll" than "I will." The negative form of "will" is "won't."
