Little, a little, few, a few

little  (peu)             a little   (un peu)

           few    (peu)             a few     (quelques)

'little'  and  'a little'  are used with uncountable nouns   (singular)

'few'   and  'a few'    are used with countable nouns  (plural)

       I have little money

I have few books    (j'ai peu d'argent, peu de livres   : pas assez)

Little and few carry negative ideas. Instead of little and few it is possible to use a negative construction with    much (+ singular) or   many (+ plural)

       He doesn't have much money

He doesn't have many books       (pas beaucoup de)

A little and a few have a more positive meaning

I have got a little money

I have got a few books       (je n'en ai pas beaucoup, mais assez)

They are similar in meaning to    some

      He has got some money

       He has got some books

        'people' is plural
