    Many people have always wanted to fly, like birds.


                

    Some of them tried to fly with wings.


               

     In 1783 the Montgolfier brothers made the first demonstration of their hot air balloon.


                 

     At the end of the 18th century Otto Lilienthal was the first man to make successful gliding flights. (glider = planeur)


          

     In December 1903 Orville Wright flew the first airplane, the Flyer.


        
    In 1909 the first aviation meeting was held in Cambrai and Blériot crossed the English Channel.
