Basketball
BASKETBALL> December 1891: It is winter and the head of Springfield College in Massachusetts wants a sport as vigorous as football, but to be played inside. He asks James Naismith, a teacher at the school to find a solution to the problem. Naismith takes elements from football, soccer and hockey and develops a new sport: basketball.Initially, there are nine players in each team because there are 18 students in Naismith's class. Basketball soon becomes a popular sport in most American colleges, and in 1898 the first professional league is formed.> 1927: The formation of the 'Harlem Globetrotters'. Their name is explained by the fact that all the players are black. They are an exhibition team who do no take part in the championship, and they are known throughout the world for their spectacular shows.> 1988: The USA do not win the Olympics. The American basketball authorities decide that professional players can play for their country at the next Olympic games. This team, which wins the Olympic gold medal in 1992, is known as the 'Dream Team'. For the first time all the great American players, like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, are together in the same time.
