    Vocabulary: Thanking everyone

Let's go on studying what is obvious and easy... essential too... because a mere THANK YOU (and a smile...) may change a lot of things. Today, we're going to "THANK" for what we are given... a basic necessity, isn't it?

First, let's notice how the verb is built "To THANK someone FOR + noun / +V -ing something!"

    - Thank you for your help! / Thank you for helping me!

    I) Knowing how to thank in casual everyday situations... and what to answer, then.

     Thanks!/ Thanks a lot/ Thanks a ton!/ Hey, thanks!

    and you should answer...

     It's OK!/ No problem!/ Sure!/ All right!/ No sweat!/ Don't worry!

II) Thanking people in more formal conversations:

Thank you very much!/ Thank you very much indeed!/ Thank you so much for ...
That's very kind of you! Thank you!/ I can't thank you enough!/ I want to thank you...
     It's so thoughtful of you!/ You're so thoughtful!/ I appreciate your help, thank you!/

    and then, you should answer:

     You're welcome!/ It's my pleasure!/ My pleasure!/
     Don't mention it!/ No, not at all!/

III) Still for conversations, but in really formal situations!

Thank you ever so much for...!/ I want to thank you very much for...!/
I'm truly thankful to you for.../ I'm grateful to him for...

IV) Writing to say "Thank You":  many "Thank You" e-mail messages are published on the Internet, but Thank you letters and cards are still usually and quite frequently sent through the Post Office System.

Many thanks for your e-mail.../ I was so pleased to hear from you.../
I greatly appreciate your kind words.../ I'm so thankful for your consideration...
I thank you so much for your assistance in our project... /
How kind of you it was to think about us on our Wedding Day...

Basic, but neat "Thank You".                           To light, I lit, lit= éclairer, illuminer.                                Is "saying Thank You" a "lost Art"?

    V) Sometimes, "Thanks" are becoming emphatic:     Then, they express an emotion, a feeling, more than the real meaning of the words used.

I'll be eternally grateful for.../ You were there for me, thank you.../
What could I have done without you? / I value your helping us ever so much.../
Please, be sure of my sincerest gratitude...

No matter what words you will use, never forget to THANK, and do it with your heart... THANK YOU for working with me... Good luck for the test!    It'll be easy...  You'll only have to respect the situations and the different registers of the language...
