    1. In 9th grade, I took a very demanding class. On the first day, our teacher, Mr. Mock, said that more than half of his students had failed his by that time.

    2. We were terrified and things didn't get easier as the year went by. Every week, he would give us assignments that counted our grade.

    3. Because I was with the class - it was just too difficult! -, I had to study really, really hard and ask my friends for help.

    4. After the first month, I was just too tired and demotivated, so I some classes to stay home or go to the mall. I just didn't want to be in that class.

    5. Exam week came, I had to face the music. When I looked at my test, I realised I didn't know anything, so I left most of the questions .

    6. As you can guess, my was beyond awful. I got an F!

    7. My life flashed before my eyes when I thought of what my mom would do when she found out I hadn't all the questions of the test because I didn't know anything.

    8. When she did find out, she wanted to kill me. I told mom the whole story of how I had my work and started to skip classes. I had a tone of unfinished assignments and the worst attendance record in history!

    9. Surprisingly, my mom got very calm and was very reasonable. She told me to the assignments before my next exam. She even offered to help me do the exercises from the beginning of the year!

    10. After that lucky escape, I promised I wouldn't drop the ball again. I became really involved and even to ask questions in class.

    11. Mr. Mock, who I'd thought hated me by then, started to see that I cared about the class and how I all my assignments on time.

    12. I every class after the first exam - day in, day out. And with my mom's and Mr. Mock's help, things made much more sense.

    13. I had a feeling that all the hard work would very positively. After all, it doesn't get worse than an F, am I right?

    14. Two months later, the second test came. When I looked down at the exam, I felt confident. This time, I had a big smile on my face when I and turned it in!

    15. A few days later, when Mr. Mock in the results, he had a big smile on his face as he walked toward me. I got a B+, which made me grin widely. All the hard work paid off!
