Active or passive voice
Active voice to passive voice:
When a sentence is written in active voice, the subject of the sentence performs the action described in the sentence.
Passive voice means that the subject of the sentence receives the action described in the sentence.Example:
My mother makes a cake (active voice).
A cake is made by my mother (passive voice).
Tense | Active voice | Passive voice |
Present simple | I read a newspaper | A newspaper is read |
Past simple | I sent flowers as a gift | The flowers were sent as a gift |
Present continuous | I am making a salad | A salad is being made |
Past continuous | I was writing a letter | A letter was being written |
Past perfect | He had recorded a song | A song had been recorded |
Future simple | I will do my homework | My homework will be done |
Future - be going to | I am going to open the present | The present is going to be opened |
Modal | You must obey your parents | Your parents must be obeyed |
Modal perfect | I should have taken my medicine | My medicine should have been taken |
Infinitive | She has to give him back the bag | The bag has to be given back |
