    Dictation - The story of the Subway in Paris

    It was in the 19th century that the story of the Paris metro began, with the aim of freeing up more and more trafic in the capitale city.
    During the same periode, the cities of London and New-York were facing the same problem. Thus, in 1863, the first line of the London Underground was created, followed by New-York in 1867.
    As the traffic in Paris was still paralysed, the exemple of foreign cities and in the approch of the Universal Exhibition, a network was created with the openning of the first line on Jully 19th, 1900.
    This line connected Porte de Vincennes to Porte Maillot, which provided acess to the site of the 1900 Summer Olympics.
    The first lines met with immediate succes and in five months of operation the number of passengers was substanciel.
    To date, there are 303 railway stations representing more than 220 km of network.
