    The Hôtel National des Invalides is an imposing building that stand out for its artistic powess, with its golden dome standing out in the Parisian landsape.
    The whole thing rises up to 101 metres. It remained the talest building in Paris until the Eiffel Tower was build in 1889.
    The golden dome, 26 metres in diameter, is topped by a lantern and a pyramid surmonted by a cross. It is periodicaly re-gilded, the last time being in 1989. This operation requires 12 kilos of gold.

    Comissioned by Louis XIV in 1670, Les Invalides was intended to house the veteran soldier of his army.
    The ' Sun King ' enttrusted this project to the architect Liberal Bruant (1635-1697 ) who created a true masterpiece in the classical style of the time, monumental in its elegance, gilding and dimensions.
