In 1947, President Vincent Auriol and his wife tok possession of the premises, completely renovating and decorating the hotel. Charles de Gaulle ocupied this place, which he hate, with the idea of changing the location of the presidential residence. He felt that the place was not suitable for the function, but his plan were aboted. Thus, in 1959, he defined the general organisation of the interior of the palace which became the nerve centre of power.
As the various presidents were instaled, some works were undertaken to met the tastes of each. However, despite all its transformations, the Elysee Palace retains a great architectural coherence and was equiped with all the infrastructure necessary for the presidential function : 257 telephone lines, 500 connected computer stations, etc.
